Benefits of a Jade Roller
Healthy Living for me, is not only about taking care of my body through fitness and eating the right, whole foods, but also incorporating rituals and regimens to heal and detoxify the body. Some of my favorite rituals are infrared saunas, steam rooms, massage as well as facials. Facials are a must – do for me on a regular basis because the benefits are moisturization, increased circulation and blood flow. Facials also are a way to relieve stress and relax, which can only benefit your mental attitude.
On one of my recent facial appointments, I discovered the jade roller, a tool that has been an integral part of Chinese beauty care regimens since the 7th Century. My aesthetician, Angela Powers, of Vanity Junkie in Portland, Oregon revealed this small equipment with great enthusiasm.
According to Angela, “The Jade stone naturally stays cold even when in contact with skin this helps tighten pores, improve blood circulation and skin tone, reduces puffiness and wrinkles, reduces dark under eye circles and just with a little pressure and rolling action it will promote lymphatic drainage. The jade roller is placed against the face, with light pressure as you begin to roll across your skin. This can even be done at home. This helps to release tension in the facial muscles while toning and plumping out wrinkles. Additionally, precious stones like jade have healing properties. According to Dr. Lamees Hamdan, who created Shiffa, a skincare line which integrates nature with science, “[In China], there were jade face rollers in the museum dating back centuries, so that got me very interested because I always thought of jade as being decorative and protective but not as a beauty tool.”
Celebrities such as Behati Prinsloo, Dree Hemingway, Alicia Keys and Miranda Kerr have been known to praise the benefits of the jade roller. Unlike the popularity of at-home lasers, the jade roller is less expensive and so easy to use.
Angela advises, “to start at the center of the neck, then move outwards and upwards along the planes of the face before finishing at the hairline.” For added benefits, you can roll over your face after applying a mask to massage the ingredients deeper into your pores. Or, in the summer time, the jade roller can be frozen and then massaged onto the face.
These little acts of self-care are just as important as exercising and eating right, because they contribute to well-being, which, after all, should be a balance of pushing yourself, but also taking care of your body in equal amounts.
